I'm starting this group because I would like to meet up with a group of good peeps on a regular basis to discuss the issues of the day like health care reform, recycling (just kidding), the bailouts, guns and gun policy, hunting, VA politics, and the answers to questions like, "Why are we here?" over massive quantities of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Guinness:) Actually, just kidding. I don't personally want to get hammered, but a beer or two over some good political and philosophical discussion w …

We intend to engage the population of D.C. in discussions that clarify the axioms underlying the policies shaping our world. We do not adhere to any one political, economic, philosophical, or religious ideology; rather, we value critical Socratic style discourse and have aspirations to influence the culture of D.C. and the world accordingly. You should join this group if you have a passion for ideas that spans many disciplines and wish to enkindle the Socratic daemon in today's world.

Washington Post Staff Writers Sunday, February 11, 2007 .. Against the morning cold, Obama wore an overcoat and a scarf, but no hat or gloves. In his speech, he presented an ambitious agenda that includes bringing an end to the Iraq war, eliminating poverty, ensuring universal health care and creating energy independence. But he seemed to be trying to transcend traditional political debate by arguing that what the country lacks is not good ideas. "What's stopped us from meeting these c …

Are corporations people? Our Supreme Court thinks so but many US citizens disagree. The Supreme Court decision in the case of "Citizens United vs the FEC" allows corporations to give unlimited amounts of money to support political candidates of their choosing. While you or I might struggle to contribute $20, they can contribute 20 MILLION dollars with no problem! Is this government of the people, by the people and for the people?? This group is primarily for residents of the Mt. Vernon dist …

After reading Empire, Multitude, and Commonwealth, many of us feel a need to discuss the implications of this trilogy for the Occupy Together Movement, politics in general, and the ways we live our own lives. I'd suggest we might want to read each of the Hardt/Negri trilogy, section by section and the basis for our discussions, and move on from there.

This is a Meetup group for political and public affairs professionals in DC. The AAPC's Mid-Atlantic Chapter hosts 6 sponsored events throughout the year, but we don't think meeting our friends and colleagues a few times is enough. What we want to do is start a Meetup group that will help people network and develop their business. We realize that these will not be as big as some of our other events but we still want to encourage everyone to come out when they can!
Calling all Singles 40 & Up! Meet for wine (or beer), espresso and decadent desserts (or nachos) and engage with other singles in stimulating conversation on a wide range of topics ... politics, literature, the arts, philosophy, sports, your past travels and wish list ... Light weight chattering is OK. Heavy weight pontificating is cool, too. Anything and everything goes. Humor is a big plus. With all this gabbing goin' on, you just might meet (and be) "the one."
We Are Change DC is committed to immediately returning the political process to the people by challenging the dominant narrative formed by an elite that shapes Americans' worldview to the detriment of her foundational ideal; that all people, by virtue of their being human, have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
